Hi Ann, I am also an Aspie? I was diagnosed 3 years ago. I have no easy answers, but I write things that may be useful. First off, do not label as a monster, they're not. You may have social phobia, which I think is common among Aspies-in fact, I think it is surprisingly common among the general population. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be helpful with this; It is a way of managing symptoms and dealing with feelings of panic. These feelings pass, though can feel terrible now! I think it's wonderful that you got diagnosed so early, and you have a therapist you can talk. For me, a great which took me years to realize was that I really dislike the socializing with groups of people, there much progress, leaving me feeling "flooded" to stimuli, and anxious. Today, I to meet with only one person at a time in a non-threatening environment where they enjoy a one-on-one conversation without feeling crashed. In summary, I guess that I'd recommend reading about social anxiety, and maybe talk to your therapist about coping strategies. and beyond-Well you did! You will have the opportunity in a situation that is challenging and difficult for you, and do what you to make it work. Think that is pretty cool:)
